Military Medal 'For his acts of gallantry and devotion to duty during the recent operations near MOUQUET FARM, 29th to 31st August, 1916. He was attached to Brigade Signal Section as a runner and was stationed at Brigade Advanced Post 9GIBRALTAR0. From here he on several occasions carried dispatches to the Battalions in the front line under the most severe bombardments. During the early hours of 31st August, 1916, he volunteered to carry a dispatch to Battalion Headquarters when the shelling was so severe that other runners hesitated. His conduct generally during the above time calls for the highest praise.'
