Military Cross 'For coonspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He led a party forward in an advance and reconnoitred and cleared a road of obstacles and wire under continual shell, machine gun and snipers' fire. His energy and initiative so inspired his men that 7,000 yards of road were cleared for traffic an hour after the beginning of the attack.'
