Military Medal 'During an attack on a German Trench on the night 14th/15th August, 1916, near MOUQUET FARM this N.C.O. showed great bravery and coolness. He brought a Lewis gun into action, well concealed, and with which he later opened on the enemy at 60 yards range. He also carried wounded back to safety from within 30 yards of the enemy trenches and gave continual assistance in placing wounded men under cover in shell holes, setting a very cheerful example throughout.'
