Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For remarkable gallantry near Chuignolles, 23 August, 1918. He was foremost in the attack, and by his dash in many cases prevented the enemy from getting their machine guns into action. Alone he rushed a machine gun post, killing the crew, and, later, a trench mortar crew.'
