'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations near BRAY on 22nd August, 1918. Whilst the Company was situated near barrage batteries it was found necessary to report location of the position to Battalion Headquarters. When the Company moved forward he was again called upon to go through a similar barrage and again succeeded in his undertaking. his action showed the highest self sacrifice and by his devotion to duty very important messages were successfully delivered.'
