Military Medal 'On the 20th September, 1917, at HOOGE, this battery was firing in a barrage when it came under heavy shell fire. The Battery Commander was wounded and a gun and detachment knocked out, the men all being killed and wounded, an another gun was set on fire. This man under heavy fire carried the Battery Commander from where he lay within three feet of the burning gun pit to a distance, but still in the open, and in the fire dressed his wounds and got him into a position of safety. He showed great courage and determination.'
