Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry, on the 18th May, 1918 this man was a member of a silent raiding party consisting of 1 officer and 18 other ranks which left the front line at about 11.30 a.m. At MORLANCOURT near Albert raided an enemy strong point. The party was organised at short notice and instruction were brief. The party had to cross 90 yards of open ground to get their objective. This man made straight for the Machine Gun in the post and got it. The courage, dash and precision with which this man carried out his orders helped materially towards the success of the enterprise. 23 prisoners and 1 Machine Gun were brought back to our lines without casualties to the party.'
