Military Medal

'For bravery in action and devotion to duty. This man is a Battalion runner and has proved himself time and again in carrying messages under heavy shell fire at MALT TRENCH 2nd March 1917, LAGNICOURT 26th March 1917 and at BULLECOURT on 2nd May 1917. His work out of the line cannot be too highly spoken of.' Second description reads: 'During the attack East of MONT ST. QUENTIN near PERONNE, on 2nd September 1918, this man was accompanied by Lance Corporal WEST on some of his dangerous journeys, and helped in the killing of the two Huns and the capture of four others. he was sent to bring back information as to the exact location of a post which was isolated on the flank. To do this he had to cross a flat swept by heavy machine gun fire. In spite of this, he accomplished his task, locating the post, and bringing information back to his Battalion Commander.'
