'Near Lihons, at Bois de Crepey, on 10th August, 1918, when a company of another battalion was instructed to mop up and capture the Bois de Crepey, this officer maintained close liaison with the battalion and rendered every assistance, proceeding with the company through the wood and insuring that it was completely mopped up. He then made a reconnaissance of the whole front. On the 11th August, encountering the enemy in force with his depleted platoon, he sent back this information, and also succeeded in taking eight prisoners. Throughout, he showed marked gallantry and leadership.'
