Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during a raid. He successfully rushed an enemy machine gun post with his section, himself bayoneting three of the garrison. Inspired by his skill and courage, his party worked along either flank and accounted for all the enemy in that part of the trench. On the signal being given to withdraw, he got all his men back to the lines, having contributed greatly to the success of the raid.'
