Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During an enemy attack he held onto his post in the face of greatly superior forces for over five hours, during which period his post was continually bombed at very close quarters, and heavy casualties had been inflicted on his men. His courage and determination were of the highest order.'
