Enlisted 19 September 1914, embarked 22 December 1914. Took part in the landing at Gallipoli, contracted an illness and evacuated. Upon recovery went to France. Wounded at Bullecourt 5 May 1917 and evacuated to No 2 London General Hospital, Chelsea. Recovered and returned to duty until cessation of hostilities. Returned to Australia on 1914 furlough.
