Australian Graves Services, Australia House, London, 22 July 1921, forwarded to Base Records three photographs of a memorial cross erected to the memory of Pte Phillips, for transmission to his brother, Mr V.C. Phillips, 1 Fern Avenue, Windsor, Victoria: 'Mr Phillips ... has specially requested that the photographs be forwarded to him as his mother is under the impression that Pte. Phillips has a registered grave and it is not considered advisable to inform her of the exact position.'

Base Records, 27 July 1921, sent request to Phillips' mother, informing her that the Graves Services Unit had been unable to locate the burial place of her son, and requesting that she forward any information that might assist the Unit in so locating. Handwritten note on file: 'Dont (sic) send [double underlined] send any more circulars of this nature to next of kin [underlined] pls. 4/8/21.'
