Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 18 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 June 1916. On leave, 8 October 1916; rejoined Bn from leave, 27 October 1916. Appointed Orderly Room Sergeant, 5 March 1917; promoted Staff Sergeant same day. Detached for duty to Anzac Section, 3rd Echelon, Rouen, 21 May 1917.
