Proceeded overseas to France from England, 1 December 1916. Marched in to Machine Gun Base, Camiers, 27 December 1916.

Admitted to hospital, 29 December 1916; transferred to England, 5 February 1917 (myalgia), and admitted to Chatham Military Hospital. Discharged to No. 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 24 February 1917; transferred to No. 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 27 February 1917. Granted furlough to 6 March 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Barambah', 8 April 1917; disembarked Melbourne, 9 June 1917; discharged, 18 July 1917 (rheumatism and senility).
