Military Medal

'On the 8th August, 1918, during the attack on the enemy's lines east of HAMEL, Private PHILP was successful in working his Lewis gun round to the flank of an enemy strong post containing machine guns which was holding up his platoon. By his skilful handling of his gun he succeeded in keeping the defenders down thus enabling his platoon to rush and capture the post, which contained over 30 of the enemy. He displayed conspicuous gallantry throughout the operations.'
