War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked Sydney, 1 April 1916; disembarked Suez, 12 May 1916. Embarked Alexandria for England (date not recorded). Found guilty, 1st Training Bn, Perham Downs, 24 July 1916, of neglect of duty when in command of the guard: reprimanded. Proceeded overseas to France, 9 August 1916; marched in to Instuctional Staff Training Camp, 13 August 1916. Taken on strength, 3rd Bn, in the field, 19 February 1917. Detached to Royal Flying Corps for mechanics test, 18 March 1917; rejoined unit, 21 March 1917. Appointed Lance Corporal, 20 April 1917. Transferred to Australian Flying Corps, 30 April 1917. Attached to 29th Training Squadron, England, 15 June 1917; marched out to Command Depot, AIF Headquarters, as Cadet, 6 July 1917; joined 2nd Aeronautics School, Chemists College, Oxford, 9 July 1917. Having graduated is appointed Flying Officer (Pilot), 2 January 1918. Proceeded overseas to France, 18 April 1918, and joined No 3 Squadron. Promoted Lieutenant, 2 April 1918. On leave to United Kingdom, 10 July 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 30 July 1918. Admitted to 14th General Hospital, Wimereux, 15 August 1918 (not yet diagnosed); discharged on 3 weeks' leave, 19 August 1918 (flying sickness); rejoined Squadron, 11 September 1918. Proceeded to join Home Establishment, 29 October 1918; admitted to 3rd London General Hospital, 13 November 1918. Died of influenza, 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, 21 November 1918.
