Military Medal 'During the attack on ANVIL WOOD, near PERONNE, on 31st August 1918 the advance was held up by an enemy strong post. Private PIGGOTT worked round to a flank with his Lewis gun, and, although subjected to heavy enemy rifle and machine gun fire, forced the post to withdraw and enabled his company to advance. Later, when the enemy, being reinforced, attempted to counter-attack and retake the position, he rushed his gun forward and completely broke up the attack. His coolness and daring saved numerous casualties to his company.'
