Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When the platoon commander was killed and the men disorganized, this N.C.O. took command while under very heavy machine gun fire. He got his men under cover and crawled out over the open, exposed ot the fire of numerous machine guns at close range, to reconnoitre and get in touch with flank units. He succeeded in his efforts, and returning to his platoon led them onto their objective. He showed skill and intiative under tyring conditions'
