Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near ALBERT on 19th May, 1918. This man was of the greatest assistance to his platoon Commander in getting the first wave through VILLE-SUR-ANCRE as expeditiously as possible, and in maintaining direction. He took charge of a Section when the N.C.O. was killed, and led his men forward to an advanced position where they were able to inflict many casualties on the enemy. His prompt and ready grasp of the situation mark him as a thorough soldier, and by his work he inspired and helped all around him.'
