'During the operations in the vicinity of BELLICOURT on 29th September to 2nd October, 1918,. When this man's N.C.O. was wounded, he took charge of the team, led them forward and got into action where the situation was most critical. He engaged the enemy at once and by his courage and initiative made good the position till the Infantry came up and filled the gap. His gallantry and absolute disregard of personal safety helped greatly in relieving a most difficult situation.'
