Military Medal 'At MESSINES on the night 28th/29th July, 1917, Sapper BLACKMORE in company with Sapper GLAISHER was returning from MESSINES where they had been engaged in preparations for the assault on the MESSINES Sector, when a shell burst near them, wounding both. Although severely wounded Sapper BLACKMORE carried his comrade 50 yards to cover, and then went for assistance. His prompt action was of no avail, for Sapper GLAISHER died before help could be obtained, Sapper BLACKMORE has always set a splendid example under fire.'
