Military Medal 'This N.C.O. was with his platoon during the attack east of ZONNEBEKE on 9th Otober, 1917. After his Officer and platoon Sergeant had become casualties he immediately took charge of the platoon showing great confidence and ability and leadership. He continually patrolled portion of the lines occupied by his platoon under extremely heavy shell fire and the most trying circumstances. His splendid courage and quick grasp of the situation was responsible for the holding together of his men and inspired them with the utmost confidence.'
