Other details | Colour Sergeant Arthur Polley was one of the first to land on Anzac Cove at 4.28 a.m. on the 25 April 1915. After climbing to the top of the hills where most of the officers were killed, he came down to the beach for reinforcements at approximately 10 a.m. where he was shot down by shrapnel. He was picked up eventually and taken to the hospital ship Queen Elizabeth. From there to Alexandria and London where a silver plate was incerted in his head. He was repatriated back to Brisbane where he was a Sergeant Major until the end of the war. |
