Military Medal 'During the advance of the 31st Battalion from WARFUSEE-ABANCOURT on the 8th August 1918 this man was a No. 1 Lewis Gunner and did wonderful work in dealing with hostile machine guns and snipers. On the 9th August he assisted the advance of the 29th Battalion on our right, by pushing his gun out into No Man's Land and bringing enfilade fire to bear. His gun was repeatedly hit by machine gun bullets but he continued to fire until the operation was completed, thus setting a splendid example of skill and courage to his comrades.'
