Military Medal 'Showed great gallantry when in charge of a T.M. detachment, in action on the evening of the 23rd September, 1917, successfully cutting enemy wire about 2000 yards north east of WESTHOEK. Half the detachment were killed and wounded and this N.C.O. with great determination set a most excellent example and kept the balance of his detachment together under considerable shellfire, until his task was completed.'
