Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near VILLERS BRETONEUX on 3rd May, 1917. During the attack Private POPE was frequently sent out with messages to the Companies and had to pass through a terrific machine gun barrage each time. Nevertheless he never failed to get through and his gallantry and good work were magnificent throughout the attack and the reports he brought back were most valuable.'
