Military Medal 'During a counter-attack by his Battalion on strong enemy positions South of VILLERS-BRETONNEUX on night 24th/25th April 1918 this man, who is a Company Runner, repeatedly carried important messages under heavy machine gun and rifle fire to Battalion Headquarters and flank units. He rendered valuable services in keeping touch with the units on the flanks of his Company during the advance, thereby maintaining complete liaison. His coolness under heavy fire and his ever cheerful manner did much to inspire all with whom he came in contact.'
