Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 29th September, 1918, near BONY this man took charge of a gun in an isolated and exposed position under heavy fire from BONY. From this position he continually engaged enemy machine guns and minenwerfer and parties of infantry attempting to debauch from BONY. During the night he beat off with his revolver an enemy bombing party that attempted to work up the trench. He maintained his position until the morning of the 30th when his gun was blown out and he himself wounded. Throughout the operations he has shown a splendid spirit of self sacrifice and one that did much to encourage the men in his team.'
