Military Cross 'During the period 29th September-1st October, 1918, in the Bellicourt sector, he displayed great courage and devotion to duty. He led his platoon in the attack on the Hindenburg Line, himself capturing fifteen of the enemy. Next, he handled his platoon excellently under extremely heavy machine gun fire, and during consolidation established a line of posts 200 yards in front of the line. He also brought back a wounded man under heavy fire.'
