War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Admitted to 16th Casualty Clearing Station, 29 August 1915 (enteritis); transferred to St John's Hospital, Malta, 4 September 1915 (diarrhoea); to England, 9 September 1915, and admitted to King George Hospital, Stamford Street, London SE, 16 September 1915 (severe). Transferred to Command Depot, Perham Downs, from Montevideo Camp, Weymouth, 28 June 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, and marched in to 4th Australian Division Base Depot, Etaples, 29 July 1916; rejoined 16th Bn, in the field, 19 August 1916. Reported 'Missing in Action', 11 April 1917; subsequently reported captured at Reincourt, and interned at Limburg, Germany. Arrived in England, 18 December 1918. Found guilty, 9 April 1919, of being absent without leave, 10 am, 9 March, to 2 pm, 8 April 1919: forfeited 28 days' pay; total forfeiture: 29 days' pay. Commenced return to Australia on board HS 'China', 1 May 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 8 June 1919; discharged (termination of period of enlistment), 22 June 1919.
