'On 27th October 1917 near ZONNEBEKE east of YPRES this N.C.O. was in charge of a gun team proceeding forward to relieve a gun position. They were caught in a heavy enemy barrage, and several of the team were wounded, including Corporal Pritchard. Although suffering great pain and considerably weakened by loss of blood he insisted on carying wounded men to a position of safety and then going for assistance to the nearest R.A.P. His action in this more than trying time set a spendid example to his comrades.'
