Medals

Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations of the 26th, 27th and 28th August 1918, which resulted in the capture of FOURCAUCOURT, and the advancement of our line beyond ESTREES. This man displayed great daring, prior to and during the attack on the village. He pushed forward in front of our outpost line, moving from shell-hole to shell-hole, continually sniping at any enemy movement. On one occasion, he pushed forward into an enemy post, shot one of the garrison, and put the other two to flight. His work as a scout and a sniper did much to deceive the enemy as to our strength and position, and set a very fine example to his Company.'
