'In the Operations carried out by 29th Battalion during 8th/9th August to the East of VILLERS BRETONNEUX. Lance Corporal PULLYBANK displayed conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty whilst acting in conjunction with the Tanks. He took up a position in advance of the final objective on the 8th inst. to cover the consolidation with his Lewis Gun. He displayed great courage in preventing enemy Machine Gun Posts firing on our troops in the final objective and when it became necessary for the covering party to retire he remained to the last in a very exposed position under extremely heavy Machine Gun and Aeroplane fire, covering the retirement. Again on day of 9th inst there was heavy enemy shelling in his vicinity when two men were killed and two wounded. Lance Corporal PULLYBANK immediately rushed to their assistance, in spite of extremely heavy shelling, and by his coolness and courage succeeded in getting the two wounded men to a place of safety, where he attended their wounds and organised a Stretcher party to remove them to the R.A.P. his prompt action undoubtedly resulted in the saving of these men's lives. Right throughout the operation he showed a splendid spirit of self-sacrifice and devotion to duty, which was an example to all with whom he came in contact.'
