Proceeded overseas to France, 22 November 1916. Wounded in action, 8 February 1917 (gun shot wound, back), admitted to 9th Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred same day to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station; to 13th General Hospital, Boulogne, 13 February 1917; to England, 15 February 1917, and admitted to County of London War Hospital, Epsom, 17 February 1917 (gun shot wound, spine: 'dangerously ill').
