Meritorious Service Medal 'This Warrant Officer left Australia with his Battalion, and has served continuously with the one exception of four weeks (wounded at ZONNEBEKE 4th October, 1917, Rejoined 30th October, 1917). Since his promotion to the rank of Temporary Regimental Sergeant Major, his work and organisation has been splendid. Just prior to the attack on 17th July, 1918, this Warrant Officer was wounded, but would not evacuate. During the attack near MONT ST. QUENTIN North East of PERONNE, on 2nd September, 1918, he commanded the Headquarters details, and at one juncture, seeing a Company in difficulties, he very gallantly led his command to the assistance of this Company, thereby relieving the situation. He has altogether, a splendid record of long and valuable service.'
