Meritorious Service Medal 'During October and November, 1917, this N.C.O. was continuall with his Battery. On several occasions through casualties his detachment was reduced to one man, with whose assistance he continued to fight his gun, refusing to be relieved. At all times his conduct has set a fine example to the men of his Battery.'
