Military Medal

'Near HOOGE, FRANCE on 20th September, 1917, during the operations near GLENCORSE WOOD, Cpl. RANN when his seniors became casualties, reorganised his platoon under severe conditions and moved forward with great dash and initiative keeping the men steady and preventing them getting ahead of the barrage. During the final assault and in the consolidation of the position he displayed coolness and by his personel example kept the morale of the men at a wonderful height, showing at all times a great disregard for danger.'
