Military Medal

'For gallantry and initiative under fire. During the enemy attack on LAGNICOURT at dawn on April 15th 1917, Sgt. RANSON was in the picquet line. He quickly grasped the seriousness of the situation and led a party of 25 men out into the open on the left flank and opened heavy fire, causing the enemy to fall back slightly, suffering heavy losses. He then ordered his party to dig in and personally superintended the siting of trench and encouraged his men regardless of persoanl risk.'
