War service: embarked from Sydney, 5 April 1916. Taken on strength, 2nd Light Horse Regiment, Egypt, 9 May 1916. Transferred to Artillery Details, Tel el Kebir, 12 May 1916. Taken on strength, Anzac Provost Corps, Tidworth, England, 1 January 1917. Appointed Lance Corporal (date not recorded); found guilty on 3 May 1917 of creating a disturbance after lights out had been sounded, and of failing to comply with an order: reverted to the ranks. Transferred to Australian Field Artillery Details, 29 August 1917. Proceeded overseas to France via Southampton, 12 October 1917; marched in to Australian General Base Depot, Rouelles, 13 October 1917. Marched out to 3rd Field Artillery Brigade, 16 October 1917; taken on strength, 3rd FAB, Belgium, 16 October 1917. Unit moved the France, 21 July 1918.
