Reported missing, 20 July 1916.

Court of Enquiry, held in the field, 1 August 1917, pronounced fate as 'Killed in Action, 20 July 1916'.

Statement, Red Cross File No 2250714, 1521 Pte G. ADOLPHUS, A Company, 31st Bn (patient, Dudley Road Hospital, Birmingham, England), 20 October 1916: 'Informant states that on July 20th. 1916 at Fleur Baix (sic) Redfern went out with [249] Cpl. T. Lane to inspect the German wire. The Corporal was wounded and I heard that Redfern was shot by a sniper near the wire. Cpl. Lane is I believe in Hospital in France. Another man went out to look for Redfern but could not find him.'
