War service: England, Western Front Embarked from Sydney, 16 July 1917, on board HMAT A16 'Port Melbourne'; disembarked Liverpool, England, 16 September 1917. Posted to No. 2 Command Depot, Weymouth., 22 September 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 3 November 1917; reported for duty, 3rd Australian Tunnelling Company, 8 November 1917. Proceeded on leave to United Kingdom, 4-18 June 1918. Transferred to AIF Depots in the UK, 20 June 1918. Marched in to No. 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 5 July 1918. 4216 Sergeant W. MacNAMARA advanced Redhead 10 pounds for his travel to England; the full amount had not been repaid by September1918, which led the Senior Church of England Chaplain, F.W. WRAY, to advise AIF HQ, 19 September 1918, 'The position ... is very unsatisfactory, and I do not consider that Chaplain Redhead should continue as a Chaplain in the A.I.F. I recommend that his kit be recovered from the 3rd Tunnelling Coy. and that thereafter he be immediately returned to Australia for discharge.' Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Wundhuk', 19 June 1919; arrived Melbourne, 18 August 1919; discharged, 21 August 1919. Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal. Death not attributed to war service. |
