War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 24 January 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 27 March 1917; marched in to 8th Training Bn, Hurdcott, 28 March 1917. Admitted to Fovant Hospital, 9 June 1917 (serbaceous cyst, left ring finger); rejoined Training Bn from hospital, 19 June 1917. Found guilty, 19 August 1917, of being absent without leave from midnight, 31 July 1917, till apprehended by the Civil Police at London, 11 am, 12 August 1917: admonished, and forfeited 12 days' pay under Royal Warrant. Marched in to 14th Training Bn, Codford, 5 November 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 4 December 1917, to reinforce 31st Bn; taken on strength, 31st Bn, in the field, 11 December 1917. Detached to 5th Division Signal School, 17 March 1918; rejoined Bn from detachment, 20 March 1918. On leave to United Kingdom, 10 December 1918; rejoined Bn, 30 December 1918.
