Military Medal 'For great gallantry and initiative. In the neighbourhood of PERONNE, during the operations of August 29th, 30th, 31st., September 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th., this N.C.O. has displayed the utmost zeal and initiative and resource in controlling his men under fire. On August 29th/30th., 30th/31st. Lance Corporal REID guided out a loading party to the wagons, unloaded same, and formed an R.E. Dump within 200 yards of front Posts, remaining in charge under heavy shell fire at HAPPLINCOURT, and LAMIRE FARM, and distributing the material to the carrying parties, enabling successful organisation for the construction of the bridges to be carried out. He has acted throughout with conspicuous bravery and coolness.'
