War service: Western Front Embarked Melbourne, 21 November 1917; disembarked Port Suez, 15 December 1917; embarked Alexandria, 18 December 1917; disembarked Taranto, Italy, 23 December 1917; disembarked Southampton, England, 5 January 1918. Appointed Acting Sergeant, 7 January 1918. On Command, Rifle & Lewis Gun School, Tidworth, 17 January-16 February 1918, and qualified 2nd Class with a fair working knowledge of the Lewis Gun. Marched in to Training Bn, Codford, 16 February 1918. Proceeded overseas to France, 1 April 1918, and reverted to Private; taken on strength, 14th Bn, in the field, 17 April 1918. Wounded in action, 18 September 1918 (gun shot wound, right hand), and admitted to 4th Australian Field Ambulance; transferred to 55th Casualty Clearing Station, 19 September 1918; to 5th General Hospital, Rouen, 19 September 1918; to No 2 Convalescent Depot, 20 September 1918; to No 11 Convalescent Depot, Buchy, 21 September 1918; to No 1 Australian Convalescent Depot, Havre, 6 October 1918; to Intermediate Base Depot, 8 October 1918; rejoined Bn, in the field, 25 October 1918.
