Medals

Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in charge of two Stokes mortars during an attack. He fought his guns most effectively during the advance and during a counter attack by the enemy. In order to knock out an enemy machine gun, he dismantled his mortar, dashed forward to a shell hole, and held the barrel in his bare hands while his comrade dropped the shells down the muzzle. He did fine work.'
