Found guilty, 2 November 1916, of overstaying leave from 0100 hours, 31 October 1916, until 2300 hours, 1 November 1916: awarded 10 days' confined to camp and forfeits 2 days' pay by Royal Warrant. Proceeded overseas to France, 4 December 1916; marched into 4th Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 5 December 1916. Taken on strength of 51st Bn, 23 December 1916. Wounded in action, 2 April 1917; admitted to No 13 Australian Field Ambulance, 3 April 1917 (gunshot wound abdomen); transferred to No 3 Casualty Clearing Station, 3 April 1917 (fractured right arm); to No 6 General Hospital, Rouen, 10 April 1917; to England, 3 May 1917; to No 2 London General Hospital, Chelsea, 16 May 1917 (shrapnel wound to right arm and abdomen); to All Saints' Hospital, Vauxhall, 21 June 1917; to No 1 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 23 November 1917; marched into No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 27 December 1917.
