'In the demonstration against the enemy position in CELTIC WOOD east of YPRES on the morning of 9th October Pte. RHODES set a splendid example of courage and devotion to duty. When the demonstration was completed he bandaged and carried back two of his comrades under heavy enemy machine gun fire and snipers.'
