Military Medal 'At POZIERES, FRANCE, 14/22nd. August 1916. These two men [RHODES and 337 Ernest Gordon PRENTICE] were employed as linesmen. Battalion advanced Headquarters was situated about 500 yards from the front line and was connected by telephone to another station over a mile behind. Between these two stations the enemy maintained a constant barrage of heavy shells which cut the wires many times a day. Nothwithstanding the heavy shelling these two men maintained communication so well that it was not necessary to use a runner. The maintainence of this line was of the utmost importance and it was the only means of communication to the various Brigades and the Artillery.'
