Medals |
Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations on the 7th/8th August 1918 at VILLERS-BRETONNEUX. This N.C.O. formed part of a patrol which was sent out to mop up three Machine Guns in order to protect the flank of a Unit making a new advance. With three men, he outflanked one gun, and took the crew prisoners without loss. He then worked with the rest of the patrol, until all the guns and crews were taken prisoner. During the movement forward to the objectives, he was in charge of the right flank of the screen, and owing to his careful handling of his section, he was able to engage enemy Machine Guns with fire, and so prevent loss in rear. His action throughout the operation was of the highest order, and he was largely responsible for the advance with few casualties.'
